| TWO MORE FINALS.... well, that pretty much sums it up. I have two finals tomorrow (wednesday), and then I have a talk with Billy and Greg on Thursday morning, and then I am completely done with school. I really need to finish packing so I can move out on friday... I had my ballet final and jury on monday, and both went very well. Actually, my jury went EXTREMELY well. I unveiled my "new voice" for the rest of the voice faculty, and hopefully it was a success. Today I had a sight singing final in Aural Skills and kind of screwed up because I was sight singing the really low bass line and i discovered that I'm really bad at sight singing when I can't confidently hit the pitches I'm supposed to be singing. My teacher, however, picked up on this and gave me some slack. Those tests are pass/fail anyway, and I at least passed. Tomorrow I have my theory IV final at 9:00 am and then my psychology final at 11:00 am. The theory final is a big part of my grade, but I'm extremely confident in that class-- but not too confident not to do a little extra studying tonight. In psychology, I have to make a 56% or higher on the final to keep an "A"... if i don't even take the final, the lowest grade I can get is a low "B"... sigh. I'm ready for summer. If summer premiered like movies do, I'd definitely dress up like one of the main characters and proudly attend the sneak preview. Speaking of such, anybody up for going to see spiderman 3 conmigo (with me)? | | |
| this has been the week from over-achiever hell... and it came directly after about a month of no expectations or deadlines. Just thought I'd share. I guess there have been some pretty big updates in my life that I haven't shared with most people, so I guess I'll just blog it, web-publish it, and leave it up to my friends and acquaintances to randomly search the internet for news on their friend, Matthew Bergman. update #1: MY HEART about two weeks ago I made mar-mar drive me to the emergency room. My heart every now and then throws up PVCs (premature ventricular contractions), and I've just kind of learned to live with it-- but when they started happening once every minute I (and my mother) decided that I should get it checked out. They kept me for about two hours and watched me on the monitor, but in the end they told me there was nothing they could do, and that I would just need to follow up with a cardiologist--but that I should come back if they get any worse. Well, the following day around lunch time I was having them at a rate of 4 per minute, so I went back. This time the new E.R. Dr. was totally unsympathetic and I don't even think he believed me that I was feeling anything (he'd listen to my heart for about 10 seconds--always between palpitations--and say "it sounds fine to me"). Anyway, they continued for a few more days and I called my cardiologist in Stillwater and set up an appointment. Now I'm wearing a holter event monitor (see image below). I've worn one before--in the six grade, and they never found anything... and when I press the button to record an event it makes this extremely loud high pitched shreiking noise. I've only had to press it in class-- and it's really funny, cause I'm not supposed to speak while it's going, so there I am sitting in the middle of class with everybody turned to stare at the guy emitting the terrible electronic noise and all I can do is smile for 30 seconds until the monitor stops. One of these days I'm going to press it and then fall on the ground twitching just to see what kind of a response that gets me. update #2: MY HAIR Matty was a blonde... briefly. Since that last update was a little long, I'll just summarize this one. I decided to let Kristin, my hair lady, highlight my hair. My hair soaked up the bleach twice as fast as normal hair, so after the regular 10 minutes the entire top of my head was bleached blonde (see image below). I had to get to rehearsal so we didn't have time to do anything to fix/darken it, so I just left and she said that I could make an appointment anytime and she'd fix it for free. Well, I went in yesterday and asked her to "make it a little less 'Lance Bass: boy band' and a little more 'Danny Savage: rock star'. She put in some dark blue, some dark red, and some dark brown... but it doesn't look very unnatural. next time I think I'll go for the "vibrant blue" dye she was trying to sell me on. update #3: MY SUMMER 2 weeks then FINALS then 2 weeks then PUERTO AVENTURAS, MEXICO RESORT then 2 weeks then SUMMER CAMP STAFF at WRSR then 4TH OF JULY in ILLINOIS then HERNIA OPERATION then 3 weeks then FIRST DAY of SCHOOL. well, I hope you've enjoyed my updates. maybe I'll do a better job of keeping my internet-based fan club in the know from now on. | | |
| well, it has been almost half a semester and I have not updated my xanga until right now-- but, it's the day of the show, y'all. It's the day of the show. That's right. State Fair opens tonight at 7:30 in the Mitchell Hall Theater at the University of Central Oklahoma where yours truly will present his adaptation of the character "Hank Munson," a member of the farmer quartet who just loves his hog(s). It's going to be a really great show-- we've definitely put in the work. Once this is over, I really don't know what I'm going to do with those extra 4 or 5 hours a night NOT spent in rehearsal. I'm sure I'll find something to pass the time. IMPORTANT UPDATE: if you only know me through the Xanga community, then I am extremely sorry for the two month rift that has opened up between us-- but I thought I should let you know that I have a hernia. That's right. A hernia. I don't know when I popped it, but I went to the doctor last month and he referred me to a surgeon who confirmed that it was, in fact, a hernia. It is a small hernia, however, and doesn't really cause me any discomforture-- so I plan on waiting until a lull in my schedule in the beginning of July to get it operated on. This means that I will travel to Mexico and work a full month of camp while herniated, but it's no biggie. Okay, well, I'm going to sign off now. School is going great, work is going great, the show is going great (it'll be over on Sunday...) and everything's pretty much great-- except for my room-- it's pretty hellishly messy right now. I haven't really had time to clean in the past month so the junk is starting to get pretty deep. The parents come up this weekend, as does my best-bud Elissa Seeliger (though technically she's coming down from Wyoming or Iowa or one of those states), and I can't wait to see everybody. Okay. I have about 2.5 hours before the show and I desperately need to shower and shave. I plan on breaking both of my legs tonight! See ya 'round. | | |
| I'm back in EDMOND and ready to CONQUER THE WORLD! the break was great... it really did a nice job of recharging my batteries. And now for my new years' resolutions: 1. Continue to work daily on speaking foreign languages. By the end of the semester I would like to be reader-fluent in Spanish and well on my way to being reader-fluent in French. 2. Read less meaningless stuff. I read a lot, but it's mostly fiction paperback trash. Not that fiction paperback trash doesn't have a place in my heart. I will always look fondly on my collection of Clive Cussler and John Grisham novels, but I think it's about time that I move on to bigger and better things. I've enrolled in a Chaucer class just for fun this semester. Hopefully it will inspire me to dive back into the classics. 3. Exercise daily. This is a big one, because I really do not enjoy exercising. My brain really never shuts down, so instead of relaxing when running on a treadmill, my brain just goes into overdrive. Not only is it thinking, but it is now thinking while I'm having trouble breathing and my legs feel like they're on fire. The only exercise that I have ever found "relaxing" is swimming, so I aim to do more of that this semester... That's all. 4. Start writing for fun. I read for fun, why shouldn't I also write for fun? I used to all the time when I was a (smaller) kid. 5. Become better at piano. I just need to get over it and sit down and study piano hardcore. I'm enrolled in class piano 3 this semester, but those classes haven't really helped me with plunking out accompaniment to my songs. Maybe if I look at it as extra study for that class I'll actually have the motivation to work harder at becoming proficient at playing the piano. well that's it. Call me. Hang out with me. I'm glad to be home. Matt | | |
| Well, I took my sight singing final at 10:00 am, and did very well on it... other than the fact that I sight read the wrong line on the page... whoops. I did it extremely well, however, and it was harder than the actual one we were supposed to do. So that's over. At 1:00 pm I perform my scene/song with Jenny for Acting for Music Theater. At 3:50 pm I perform my Jury. I'm pretty un-pumped. I'm not dreading it and I'm not too excited for it. It's pretty apathetic. I might post later tonight how well/bad I did. I'm sure I'll be looking for something to do while not studying for my remaining two finals. | | |
